IE7 Beta 2 Preview
February 1, 2006I’ve been playing with the new IE7 public beta for the last 30mins
Things i’ve noticed so far – i don’t know how this compares with the betas that have been on msdn as I don’t have access:
- It looks, to me, like it renders the pages as an image, [at least when you zoom to a smaller size (ctrl+wheeldown)]. Makes the page look “fake” to me.
- talking of zoom – the CTRL+wheel now zooms the page, as in opera, rather than changing the font-size, ala IE6/firefox.
- it dosen’t seam to style my H1 correctly when it has an image inside it. <h1><img src=”myheadergraphic.gif” />Header text</h1>. The bottom-border on the h1 renders inside the box – or the content overlaps the border.

- clicking on the arrow on a dropdown triggers the content filter pop-up blocker thingy saying “Pop-up blocked. To see this pop-up oradditional options click here” clicking on the bar only lets me change general settings not enable dropdowns. this happens wether the dropdown in question has any js enabled or not. I can use the keyboard to flick though the options though???
I’m sure i can fix some of this and come up with more given some more time.
back to work…

Powazek: Just a Thought: Digging in the Dirt
…maybe only a small percentage of all readers will ever make it to the bottom of a page, but those readers are your most valuable.
Hmm, I’m not convinced. When I read the article and got to the bottom I just ignored the “bottom bar” (as opposed to side bar). My first thought was “advertising” – I’ve gotton to used to site’s like amazon shoving other things the what to sell me in a box bellow the main content.
Also when I first arrive at a new site – particularaly if it is a blog I might launch the “about me” page to a background tab – but whe I get to Powazek’s I feel a little lost. There’s no navigation I don’t know where I am. Is this single page the whole website or is there more – at first glance I don’t know

Time to get on track
January 8, 2006I think I’ve had enough of reading* about how Ruby on Rails is so cool an I’m just going to start writing some code.
* I’m about 1/3 of the way through Agile Web Development with Rails (just coming to the end of the stuff about testing).
